DO YOU JUANA? "TOGETHER WE FIGHT"

Have you ever heard the phrase “that’s good, for a girl/woman”? Men think it’s a compliment given to those who they tell this. This phrase itself is one of the few misogynistic phrases out there that exist. This phrase directly insults women of their abilities. Indicating that as a woman, we should not be able to do great things, that we are not capable of doing what men can do. It’s as if we are not at all allowed to be great. People have been belittling women for centuries.

Misogyny has been around for as long as society has been built. For example, companies have been mistreating women. Women still receive lesser payment from their work. It has been imprinted in the minds of people that women are only capable of doing easy work.

When mistakes are made by men the society is ready to accept or forgive them. But when a woman makes a mistake, the society is unforgiving of her and they look down at the woman with disgust. When a man has many women, he is looked up to and is praised, but when a woman has many men, she is labeled with disgusting names.

Yes, feminism have existed for so long now. The earliest rally about equality for women dated back in 1848. The fight has been going on for years! Yet even during this modern age, being a woman is still not easy. As a woman myself, I have been unfortunately silent about the inequality that I have witnessed. But that’s about to change, it’s time that women – every single women out there – should fight for what our gender deserves.

But how do I empower women? Let a woman lead, give her opportunities to show what she can do without belittling her. Women are still having difficulties in looking for an equally paid job and it is a relief for them to have a spotlight. Support women. Tell them you care. Never invalidate what women are capable of. Women like to be told beautiful but it hits different when you are told that you have a nice personality. "Sometimes empowering yourself means stepping back and allowing someone else into the spotlight," Jawed-Wassel. Women often share their thoughts and points about something and sometimes we don’t have the same point about that topic, but remember that we all have different point of views, honor their intelligence and don’t try to oppose with them. Sponsor other women, help and mentor them instead of competing. Lastly, thank women.

Women continue to overcome obstacles around the world. Women that are well mannered, educated, and empowered are truly heroes that serve change in every community. Women that are allowed and has the urge to speak up for their rights will gain confidence and will not be ashamed to show who or what they really are.

There are ideologies in empowering women. Empowering women generates governance in gender equality. Sustenance in non-discrimination and human rights, guarantee the well-being of people; male or female, it promotes better education and entrepreneur development practices that empowers women, and advocates equality in all communities. To sum it all up, women empowerment performs a big benefit to bring peace around the globe.

So when we hear the phrase “that’s good, for a girl/woman” again, look that man in the eye, smile and say “I did better than you then, since women are always great at everything” and walk away with your head held high and walk with power, Queen!
