Aside from Philippines is known for its pristine beaches and islands, it is also known for having fun and wonderful fiestas. Filipinos have different ways of celebrating fiestas in their own city or province. One thing for sure is fiestas in the Philippines can be religious, cultural, or both. However, the way we, Ilocanos, celebrate our province’s fiesta is quite different compared to other provinces.

Kannawidan. You can see every Bigueño’s or Ilocano’s smile and joy on their faces whenever 28th of January approaches. This festivity is to acclaim the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province. Many events happen during Kannawidan, I would love to name all these events but I will just mention some. First “Trade Fair”, where every municipality shows and sells their products. A pageant, that we call “Saniata ti Ylocos”. Concerts are also held, where bands, artists, idols, etc. perform on stage in front of hundreds of Ilocanos. And of course, everyone’s favorite, the Food Fair which provides a Happy Tummy for y’all.
